LEATHER TYPE & LABELING

Leather buyers need to know that the leather they are purchasing is of the exact type and grade specified by the tannery.

Product retailers need confirmation that all panels in the product claimed to be leather really are leather, and that they are from the required animal species.

  • Is the leather sheep skin or pig skin?
  • Is it real crocodile or merely embossed cattle hide?
  • And what about surface quality? Is it the aniline leather that you paid for, or is it from a lower grade hide that has been corrected and then pigmented? And what do these terms really mean?
  • Or is it bonded leather? If so, you'll need to know what the leather fiber content is, so that you can comply with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) labeling rules.

The Leather Research Laboratory is highly experienced in resolving all of these issues for clients and providing authoritative reports that illustrate and substantiate our findings.
